Heartstopper Season 2 Premiere Date Announced by Netflix

Get ready for exams, Paris, and prom.

Netflix has announced the premiere date for the smash hit queer series Heartstopper.

The series stars out actors Joe Locke and Kit Connor who play friends who eventually realize they like each other. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alise Oseman, Heartstoppers debuted to critical acclaim in 2022. Oseman created and scripted the show as well.

Now, the two boys are official and this is where the show picks up when the new eight-episode season comes out on August 3.

“Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love, and friendship,” the logline for the new season reads.

The first season of the show has a 100 percent critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and reached the Netflix Top Ten list in more than 50 countries, according to the streaming platform.

“Season 2 is based on Volume 3,” Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum, referring to Volume 3 of the graphic novels. “So we had a good foundation. But there’s not enough in the book to take a whole season of TV, so there had to be a lot of creation of new stuff.”

Executive producer Patrick Walters said that “it’s really gorgeous because they’re such a bonded gang in the comic and in the scripts that [Alice] wrote. And then you have these actors who are also equally bonded and love each other so much. It’s an energy of friendship on set, whenever the actors are there and a whole big gang. It’s really nice.”

Season two's cast includes Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Sebastian Croft, Tobie Donovan, Rhea Norwood, Jenny Walser, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman.

Connor shared that Oseman’s scripts are “cool and fresh and a different vibe from season one.”

“Charlie goes on a journey this season,” Locke said of his character this season. “His story’s a bit more mature.”

Season three of the show has already been greenlit.
